Purpose of the role
The primary purpose of this role is to support the contracts function for Fortescue Energy, assisting the Regional and Project teams in the development, from initiation to investment, and execution of Fortescue Energy’s major renewables projects within Africa.
The immediate support required for the Region is the tendering, negotiation, award and administration of key engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning contracts for Stage 1 of Fortescue Energy’s Project Chui in Nakuru County, Kenya.
Responsibilities
- Execute, and provide recommendations for updating, the project specific contracting and procurement strategy.
- Support and facilitate the integration of centralised global procurement strategies as part of the project specific contracting and procurement plans.
- Oversee the development, coordination, and evaluation of tender packages for the execution phase of Projects including contracts for engineering, construction, procurement, and commissioning contracts.
- Facilitate the negotiation of contract terms and conditions to support project schedule and budget.
- Ensure the contracting and procurement activities are in accordance with established Contracts and Procurement policies and procedures and continually focus on improving process and procedure where possible.
- Review of procurement documentation that supports the project requirements developed by the team.
- Identify and maximise opportunities to achieve regional and project specific objectives.
- Identifying and recommending to the Contracts Manager where adjustments are required to staffing levels.
- Provide leadership, support and guidance to other Contracts and Procurement specialists.
- Provide reports, analysis and advice to support contracting and procurement decision-making.
- Identify and evaluate key risks at a contract formation and seek input from other functions as appropriate (e.g. technical, legal, global procurement, communities etc.).
- Maintain and update procurement records and generate reports on procurement and contract activity to meet organisational compliance requirements and provide access to procurement information.
- Oversee contract administration to support execution, including correspondence and contract notices and claims assessment.
- Work as part of the team to deliver value through competitive sourcing and effective contract management.

- Reports to Contracts and Procurement Manager
Qualifications And Requirements
- +10 years’ experience in a Contracts and Procurement role within major projects and/or energy industries (renewable energy experience desirable).
- Good attention to detail.
- Bachelor degree in commerce, business, law, quantity surveying, engineering or construction management/economics desirable.
- Chartership by recognised body desirable but not essential (e.g. RICS, CIPS or Legal)
