This morning we were delighted to launch our 2022 Sustainable Business Report where we transparently talk about our successes and our setbacks, all of which are important to our business and of interest to our various stakeholders.
This year’s theme, Partnering for Growth; Transforming Lives, is about recognising the power of partnerships and collaboration in solving societal issues and driving responsible and sustainable businesses.
We want to leverage on shared value partnerships to further promote socio economic inclusion and impact areas such as agriculture, economic empowerment, education and health.
It is through such innovations and partnerships that we have seen the value we created for the Kenyan society increase to 727 billion shillings, approximately 10 times greater than our financial profit.
During the reporting period, our biggest innovation, M-PESA also celebrated 30 million monthly active customers in Kenya which in turn saw its social value increase by 14% to 275 billion shillings.
We cannot do business if the society around us is failing and if the environment is in turmoil.
That is why we continue to partner with communities through M-PESA and Safaricom Foundation, who continue their work to transform lives, partnering with local and national authorities and others to make a tangible difference across all levels of society.
The two foundations have now impacted over 4.2 million Kenyans in the past three years with a target of reaching a further 6 million by 2025.
Safaricom PLC is committed to integrating a purpose-based approach to sustainability and taking a shared responsibility for achieving a better world.
Be sure to read about all the valuable lessons as captured in our sustainability report about how we continue to meet the needs of our customers and communities as well as protect the planet for the present and the future. #SustainableSafaricom
